Your road to 42.2K starts here.

Road to 42.2 is a 20-week marathon training plan designed for runners who already have an established running base and are ready to take on the challenge of training for a marathon.

Whether this is your first marathon or you’re returning to the distance and want more structure, this program will guide you from your first week of training all the way to race day.

And this is about a lot more than just running farther.

Throughout the program, you’ll learn how to train by effort, build your weekly mileage and long runs gradually, practise marathon effort, fuel and hydrate for longer distances, recover from bigger training weeks, and prepare physically and mentally for 42.2K.

Who This Plan Is For

Road to 42.2 is designed for runners who already have an established running base and are ready to take the next step into marathon training.

Before starting this plan, you should be able to comfortably complete approximately 10K and already be running consistently.

This plan is a good fit for you if:

  • You can currently run or run/walk 10K
  • You’re comfortable running 4 days per week
  • You have an established running routine and aren’t starting from zero
  • You’re preparing for your first marathon or want more structure for your next one
  • You’re ready to gradually build your long runs and weekly mileage over 20 weeks
  • You want to learn how to manage effort, fueling, recovery and the mental challenges that come with marathon training
  • You’re willing to let effort guide your training instead of chasing a specific pace every day

You do not need to be able to run anywhere close to 42.2K when you start. If you have the base, we’ll build the rest together.

More Than a Marathon Training Schedule

Road to 42.2 doesn’t just tell you what to run.

It helps you understand why you’re doing it, what the effort should feel like, when to push, when to pull back, and how to adjust when training doesn’t go according to plan.

You’ll learn how to approach the long runs that build your endurance, but also how to handle the days when your heart rate is higher than expected, your legs feel heavy, a workout doesn’t go well, or your brain starts telling you that you can’t do this.

Marathon training isn’t about proving you can run 42.2K before race day.

It’s about spending 20 weeks building the runner who can.

One week at a time. One long run at a time.

One step at a time.
